We all get stressed, it’s just human nature! When the world gets too overwhelming, and you can’t think about anything else, here are some tips that can help you relieve (even eliminate!) your stress. These hacks will actually change your life!
1. Do something you have control over.
Try taking on, and completing, a small task that’s within your control, like cooking or organizing. You’ll feel better once you’ve got it accomplished.
2. Play with your pet.
How can you be stressed while playing with your cute ball of fur? Play some fetch, jingle your keys, let you stress melt away, because when your pet is happier, YOU’LL be happier.
3. Burn candles.
Soothing scents like eucalyptus or mint will help your stress melt away. You can also burn incense if you love the strong, pungent scent/
4. Meditate. No, really.
Meditation sounds scary, but it’s as easy as sitting down, closing your eyes and visualizing… nothing! If you take these few minutes to clear your head, you will feel way better then you did before.
5. Make a to-do list.
Accomplishing goals always feels good! Taking out the trash, getting your car’s oil changed, and calling your Mom all in the same day can seem daunting, but checking them off a list as you go will make you feel like you are getting things done.
6. Take a hot bath or shower.
Relaxing in a nice bubble bath or shower can seriously do wonders. Think happy thoughts, turn on some relaxing spa music or nature sounds and you’ll be transported to a better place.
7. Get enough sleep.
Sleep deprivation can add to your stress. Make sure you’re getting at least 7-8 hours per night. Try hopping into bed 15 minutes sooner than you normally would, turn off your electronics and close your eyes.
8. Get some exercise.

9. Immerse yourself in a good book.
Sometimes all it takes is a good book to get your mind off of whatever is stessing you out. Lose yourself in a fictional (or non-fictional) world! Have you read any of these?
10. Write about your feelings.
You’ll feel better. Getting it all out will help you deal with whatever is causing your stress. Keep a diary, write on a blog, whatever works.
11. Go for a walk in nature.
Not all of us have mountains right outside their window, but if you can get yourself to a forest, river or even a beach, do it! Leave the stress of the city behind you.
12. Go for a drive.
You don’t even have to be the one driving! Get in your car, put on your favorite music, and go for a drive. Sing along at the top of your lungs. If the weather’s nice, let the windows down and feel the wind!
13. Drink less coffee.
The jitters are no help when you’re stressed. Limiting your coffee intake could make a difference in your stress levels. The CDC reports that drinking caffeinated coffee may make it even worse.
14. Let it go.
I know it’s not that easy, but stress is hard to manage. De-stressing can be as simple as cutting whatever it is that is making you feel this way out of your life.
15. Talk about it.
Don’t bottle it up! A second or even third opinion on something can be good, and you can even get advice for dealing with your stress from loved ones or colleagues.
16. Lose yourself in music.
Self explanatory. Make a playlist with some of your favorite songs or discover new ones! I love listening to music with Spotify, it’s free!
17. Distract yourself.
Sometimes you just need to turn on Netflix and order a pizza. If it helps you stop thinking about your stresses, then it’s a good thing. Also, looking at beautiful people is helpful.
18. Practice mindful breathing.

19. Set aside time each day to do something just for you.
Make sure you have you-time every day! Make a cup of tea, go shopping by yourself, order take out and chill, whatever you want!
20. Identify what is stressing you out.
Make a list, then separate it into things you can and cannot control. If you can’t change it, stop stressing! If you can, you’ll figure out a way.
21. Tidy up.
Relaxing about things is so much easier when your house or room is tidy! Start off with a small area, get rid of things you may not need and give everything a good scrub.
22. Just dance!
With music or without. Solo or with a partner. Let your hair down and just dance. You won’t regret it. In the words of Lady Gaga: just dance, it’s gonna be okay. 🙂
