It can be tough to embark on a weight loss journey. Many of us with with a few extra pounds pay close attention to what we eat and we exercise daily but the weight won’t budge. We’ve compiled a short list of 4 tips to lose weight that can help you shed some pounds in a relatively stress-free way without gimmicks or “miracle foods”.

Make sure you get your 8 glasses of water every day, minimum. Water helps boost your metabolism, keeps you hydrated and can curb your appetite. Drink water in between meals to help you feel full. Sugary drinks like soda and juice have excessive calories without vitamins (in the case of soda) and without fiber (in the case of juice). You will watch your waistline shrink when you cut out these added calories.

Eat at Home

People eat more when they eat out. The portions are too large, the food is higher in fat and calories when you eat at restaurants, especially at fast food chains. Try to eat at home as often as you can. Challenge yourself to eat at home 6 dinners a week. Pack your lunch for work.

Bulk Up Your Meals With Veggies

Vegetables are full of vitamins, fiber and have much fewer calories than grains. Follow the rule that 1/2 your plate should be veggies, 1/4 protein and 1/4 carbohydrates. A diet rich in vegetables and fruit can reduce your risk of heart disease, prevent certain forms of cancer, lower your blood pressure and help you maintain healthy skin and bones.

Eat Breakfast Like a King, Lunch Like a Prince and Supper Like a Pauper

A sure way to lose weight is to cut out the bad habit of night time snacking. You should get most of your calories before noon so that your body gets a chance to use the energy you’ve provided. You’ve no opportunity to burn away the late night snacks, so the calories get converted to fat. Eat a filling breakfast and lunch. Go light on dinner.
