How-To

Use pipe cleaners of any color you choose, bend into different shapes like snowflakes, candy canes or even simple spirals then tie them at the top with string or wire. Be sure your shapes are more narrow than the jar you’re making them in to pull crystals out with ease.
Fill container with crystal solution at a ratio of 3 tablespoons of Borax Detergent to 1 cup of boiling water. At this stage you may add a few drops of food coloring to give your ornament a different hue.

Submerge your pipe cleaner ornament in the solution and attach it to craft sticks or a wooden dowel to allow it to hang freely in the solution. Be sure it isn’t touching the bottom or the sides of the jar.

Wait overnight (or at least 8 hours) for your pipe cleaner ornament to crystallize. In the morning you should have a beautiful holiday ornament covered in shimmering crystals perfect for ringing in the Yuletide Cheer.

But hold on– crafting doesn’t have to stop at Christmas! Bend pipe cleaners into hearts for Valentine’s Day, Shamrocks on St. Patrick’s day & so on. Your little ones will love to make them and you’ll have a blast without breaking the bank!
