Winter is finally here, the season of dark, vampy lip colors. But I hate having to reapply them all day long because they just don’t last. Try these tips and your lipstick will never budge.
Tip #1: Exfoliate those lips!
In order for your lipstick to last, your lips need to be smooth and moisturized. Exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush, mascara wand or a sugar scrub. Check out this DIY lip exfoliater here.
Tip #2: Pick a long-lasting lipstick formula.
If you really want your lipstick to stay put, it might be time to look for a different formula. Look for a matte formula rather than a creamy or glossy finish. Because the matte formula dries completely, there’s no risk of your color slipping off. This doesn’t mean you can’t use a creamy formula, it just means you need to follow steps 3 & 4 closely.
Tip #3: Lip liner isn’t old-fashioned.
I think a lot of women feel that lip liner is an old-fashioned step in their routine, reminiscent of grandma. But really, this is a crucial step to making your lip color last WAY longer. Pick a liner that is roughly the same color as the lipstick you chose, and line those lips (staying close to your natural lip line of course.) Fill in your lips for extra lasting power.
Tip #4: The RIGHT way to blot.
It’s always a good idea to blot, especially if the lipstick you chose was on the glossier side. Take a tissue and separate it into two halves. Place one sheet on your lips and dust a translucent loose powder over the lips, through the tissue. This is a trick you’ll see makeup artists doing backstage at fashion shows!
