Realizing you’re short an egg when you’re in the mood to bake cupcakes at 2 am is kind of annoying. As someone who has a slight obsession with baking , I make it a point to stock up on extra ingredients whenever I can but somehow I can never seem to have buttermilk. I don’t like having to buy an entire litre of buttermilk when you only a small amount is called for. So after some digging around I found a solution to my dilemma, rejoice! Buttermilk can be easily made at home with only two ingredients that are staples in every kitchen, milk and lemon juice or vinegar. Seriously, this is all you need to make a quick and easy substitute that works just as well as the store bought variety. So if you’re on lookout for a subsitute, your search ends here! What You Need:
– 1 cup Milk
– 1 tbsp Vinegar or Lemon Juice

– Mix in 1 tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice into the milk
– Let sit for 5-1o minutes. When it’s ready, milk will appear slightly thicker and small curds should form
– Use as needed in the recipe
Note: If you need 2 cups of buttermilk, add 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar to the milk.
