In 2014, the death of a 7-month-old baby in Arlington made headlines around the world. The cause of death was distracted driving. A father, standing at a crosswalk, not even crossing the street, was struck by a truck that had been hit by another car while racing through a yellow light. He had been pushing his son in a stroller which was flung into the middle of the street. This sounds like an episode of CSI or a bad horror movie, but this is the real life tragedy and it happens more often than we would like to think.
This PSA was created to bring awareness to the fact that each day in the United States, 9 people are killed and more than 1,153 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver.
Distracted driving activities include things like using a cell phone, texting, and eating. Using in-vehicle technologies can also be sources of distraction. While any of these distractions can endanger the driver and others, texting while driving is especially dangerous because it combines all three types of distraction.
Remember, it can wait.
