Valentine’s Day can be daunting for all the singles out there. Though I am happily married now, I certainly remember having a case of the “ouchies” when I was single at this time of year. That’s completely understandable. I get it. But, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to stress you out. You’re amazing! Here are some tips for coming through Valentine’s Day by celebrating love, in all its forms.
Do something to celebrate yourself. They say to truly love another, you must love yourself. Be kind and compassionate towards yourself. Indulge in a massage, facial, mani-pedi or even buy yourself a piece of jewelry with “I love you to the moon and back”. You deserve your love just as much, if not more, than anyone else. Treat yourself as a mother would treat her beloved child today.

Connect with loved ones. Valentine’s Day is not just about romantic love. Go spend some time with your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings. Every year I buy a little gift for my mother on Valentine’s Day because we’ve loved each other since before I was born. That is worth honoring.

Enjoy your single status. Remember those relationships that didn’t work out? They didn’t pan out for a reason. He definitely was not the one for you. You’re free to find someone better suited for you. Remember it’s better to be single than in a bad relationship. Plus, there are perks to being single, you can sprawl out in bed, leave your clothes wherever you want, watch “girl” movies with abandon and buy yourself cute heels without having to explain the credit card statement.

Buy yourself some flowers. Better yet, write yourself a love letter. List all of the qualities you possess that are beautiful, admirable, that you’re proud of. I know there are tons. Kind? Honest? Trust-worthy? Jot them down on beautiful stationary and seal it with a kiss!

Spend the day with friends. Do not spend the day crying on the couch, fighting the urge to connect with your ex or worrying about if you’ll ever find love. If you must do this, don’t do it alone. Grab your girlfriend(s) and go out for dinner, watch a funny movie, go on a hike. Make sure you laugh from deep within your belly. Remember, you are not alone!
